U.S.M.G.A's Rules and Regulations

A rider completes the Association Race.

U.S.M.G.A follows the rules of the

 International Mounted Games Association

with additions listed below.

Age Restrictions

Riders of any age may compete at USMGA events.

Height and Weight Limitations

Mounts for games may be of any size. Any pony and/or rider may be required to submit to weights and measures at the discretion of the chief organizer of the competition. U.S. riders and riders using ponies borrowed from U.S. riders will meet the following weight requirements dressed and ready to ride:
  • Riders over 118 pounds may not ride a pony 12'2 and under.
  • Riders over 150 pounds may not ride a pony 13'2 and under.
  • Riders over 190 pounds may not ride a pony 14'2 and under.
  • Riders over 250 pounds may not ride a pony 15 hands or under.

Abuse of Ponies

No abuse of any pony will be tolerated at any time whether in the stable area, the warm up area or in the competition arena. Any official or member of the organizing committee for the event may issue a warning. If the abuse continues or is repeated, the organizing committee will eliminate the rider from the competition. Eliminations of riders for abuse will be recorded with board of directors who may review the elimination and dismiss offending riders from USMGA.

Drug and Alcohol Regulations

There is a zero tolerance level on alcohol and on performance enhancing drugs or on any depressant or stimulants not prescribed by a doctor. A competition organizer may eliminate from the competition any horse and/or rider who appears to be impaired or unsafe in the opinion of any official of the competition organizing committee.

Additional Races or Rule Changes

USMGA board of directors may approve rules for additional races or rules not included in the International Mounted Games Association rule book. Any member may submit a suggestion for a new game to the board.

Required Equipment Regulations

All riders must wear SEI or ASTM approved helmets, have helmet chin straps fastened, and wear appropriate riding boots while mounted.
