The Quentin Open brought games riders from all over North America.  Organizer Sharon Brown was pleased but concerned as teams continued to send in entries (final entries: 12 teams in the masters, five teams in the for-ever-young, three teams in the junior division and five teams in the pairs division. Sharon did not want this to be the first USMGA competition that turned away entries.).  The weather was surprisingly beautiful (the weatherman had predicted rain).  Suzie Warne from Kent, England taught an English approach to skills in the Saturday morning clinic.

        The 4-Ever-Young division, won by the Canadian team the Nags, was a bit more strict on the rules this time (some judges even disqualified their own mothers!). The improving quality of the 4-Ever's has inspired others to take up the challenge and has made this a fast-growing division.  There have even been rumors of a semi-pro team forming. (Watch out for the Pickleds, more information pending from Robert Taylor.) 

      The Master's division was taken by the Canadian Red team but with the help of coach Suzie Warne the Stars N' Stripes gave a good chase overcoming the injury of Cassie Greiling's pony Raven after an accident in the first race in the first heat. (Rules for international competitions allow a team to borrow a pony from any available source.  A 4-Ever pony was borrowed for the four man team.)  Close on their heels were the Egg Foo Chickens, followed by the Canadian Cowboy team.   The B Final was won by the Canadian team, the Hornets with the Fat Penguins second. The C final was won by the Stars, followed closely by Loud and Obnoxious. 

      The Shooting Stars won the Mini (Junior) division, with the Ice Breakers second and the Rock Stars third.

       Pairs came at the end of a long and tiring competition with riders switching ponies after every two races. Freak n Hot won the contest with an incredible three way tie for second between Freckles, Road Runners and the Stars.   We salute all the pairs endurance and riding skill. 

      Many thanks to Sharon Brown for all the incredible work she put into making such an enjoyable and memorable weekend for so many people.
